A question about : Food Shopping Has Gone Up Again!!!!

This is just ridiculus

I swear the cost of shopping is rising monthly if not weekly..

A weekly big shop from sainsburys has just cost us Ј150

last week it was Ј130, ok we had a birthday cake in there but all the rest just normal food no extravegance...

we are a family of 5, soon to be 6 as expecting a baby

I have not even thought about how much extra the baby will cost a week....

rent has gone up, fuel bills, utility bills everything seems to be rising insanely high..

anyone else feeling it??

  • Mine comes in at around Ј120 a week for 2 adults and a collection of moggies, and we're vegetarians! There isn't much you can do really, prices go up. I've given up driving and going out which is fine really, I have a lot of books to read.
But I am definitely glad I don't have kids.
  • Prices are rising almost daily
However you can still eat well and cheaper if you scratch cook and meal plan
Get yourself over to the old style board. A lot of grocery challenges, recipes and inspiration
There's plenty on that board who feed large families for a lot lot less
  • try shopping at other shops instead of sainsburys they do tend to be pricy - read through this site lots of tips for cutting costs and food budgets Ј15o for weekly shop even 130 is ott for a family of five - what supercrimpers on chanel 4 on demand and see how some families have been given Ј50 for a week and they do it
  • I agree that prices have gone up a lot but I believe that the supermarket shopping is one area where most of us can cut back if you really want to or have to. I have recently switched from Tesco to Aldi and have saved about Ј10 a week doing this. My monthly spend is now Ј280 for four of us including two older kids. This includes all cleaning and laundry stuff and toiletries.
I learnt about meal planning on the old style boards and this has made a huge difference to how I shop, it makes life easier too.
  • Well if you just want a moan we even have a vent board
However as you say, prices are rising, your family is getter bigger so how do you expect to cope this time next year if you don't start looking at how to reduce your shop now?
Fuel is also getting dearer and wages if there are any are stagnating. Something has to give in everyone's budget
  • i agree food prices have gone up a lot of late, thankfully all but one of my children are grown and gone now, and the one at home has oatso simple for breakfast, gets his own lunch at work so its just tea/dinner really.
i cook quite a bit but work too so cant do EVERYTHING from scratch. one thing which has helped a lot is shopping around. I now get great big packs of chicken from Makro (curries, casseroles, stir-frys, fahitas and more) frozen stuff from Iceland (their Gammon Joint at Ј3.50 and their chicken steaks are especialy good) and toiletries/cleaning from Home Bargains. Time consuming but only do this once a month (Makro prob every 2-3 months) then just need a top-up from Asda weekly which is usually Ј40 - ish, used to be a lot more. also see which value brands you can live with. i can tinned tomatoes, biscuits, ice cream but I'd rather drink puddle water than own-brand coffee!!!
  • I trust you are not buying all branded products?
We are a family of four, 2 adults and 2 kids, average Ј120pw ish...
