A question about : Best Budget Tyres?

My beloved Velocity tyres are coming to the end of their lives, and they were the best tyres Ive ever had. Problem is, Yokohama dont make them anymore title=Mad Even madder because they were a bargain at Ј60 a piece!

So, Im looking for 4 Budget Tyres, have you found any that you think highly of? I need 225/45/17 's

  • The ones National Tyres do are OK. Not the very cheapest but the next step up. Barum?
  • Have a look on www.justtyres.co.uk they have premium brands for around Ј90 all in & budget for Ј65.
Don't forget to clik the 'coupon' button & get a voucher for another Ј5 off. (at least that's what we got last month!)
They offer a lonnnnnnnnng guarantee, too!
Saves all the hassle of mail order & then finding a fitter & then who you blame if there's a problem!

  • Auto Express did a Tyre Test (PDF) where they give quite a comprehensive overview of different brands of tyre, premium and budget.
Apologies, that PDF file isn't the one I was looking for, well it is, but it's not the authentic Auto Express one... bear with me
Bah I can't find it, I'll carry on searching though. In the meantime, I found this which doesn't seem as comprehensive but should be better than my near-useless link
  • Thanks for that guys, had a look at your links and narrowed down a few possibilites from there.
I never realised finding a decent set of boots was so difficult!!
  • Currently looking at a set of "hero" tyres, Ive read some good reports....
    Ill keep you updated!
  • mytyres.co.uk are v good....
  • I recently looked at tyres on blackcircles.com for a set of 4. Ones they could not give a named brand on, i.e. their cheapest, were just over £100. Michelin Energy E3B's were only about £160 so I thought the extra £60 for the brand and the possibility of extended life would be worth it.
I had a "regal" tyre (think the brand is owned by goodyear) which was new but had a rip in the sidewall. This was before the tyre belonged to me so no idea what caused it. I guess these things and punctures etc can happen to any tyres though.
  • economy brand tyres are normally a waste of money ,
most of the manufacturers have budget versions of their best sellers
one example is cooper, i have used these and they are excellent value
talk to an independant tyre shop and they will be able to help, i would stay well away from kwikfit (not that cheap anyway)
  • A friend of mine into his performance cars told me he always uses federals, if there good enough for his cars there good enough for my 2.0 dti, iv run about 1000 miles on a front set and they are amazingly grippy, best of all there only Ј35 each
  • just found out Cooper own Avon tyres
    Michelin own Kleber tyres
  • Here's a question, why's it so hard to find any cashback/voucher sites that have anything for tyres, driving lessons, etc...I've only just got info from myvouchercodes.co.uk or greasypalm (can't remember which) for blackcircles website...anybody have/seen anything? I've just found a promo with BSM from looking at the offer in TescoClubcard Deals and then looking at the BSM website direct...they're offering 5 lessons for Ј75 on their website and Tesco offers Ј46.50 in vouchers for a 4 lesson pack; don't suppose they'd let you use both??lol
  • I have a Mondeo TDCi Estate, fantastic car which I really enjoy driving along the lanes of Cornwall (although I avoid like a plague the local Ford dealer based in Wadebridge.
I researched the best tyres to buy (on a budget). I'd seen too many 'cheap' tyres wear too fast and not handle at all well.
    Good tyre review here
    https://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyres_For/Ford/Mondeo.htm
(go to 'home' and start again for other cars)
So the best tyre for the Mondeo seems to be the Uniroyal Rainexpert2 (bearing in mind how it's always raining in Cornwall)
Black circles quotes Ј100.33 fitted per tyre inc.
MYTYRES quoted Ј79.20 fitted per tyre inc.
BEST BUY TYRES Ј69.00 fitted per tyre inc.
    https://www.bestbuytyres.co.uk
Better still, not fitted price is only Ј58 (plus Ј10 postage for up to 4 tyres (possibly more). My local tyre centre will fit and balance a tyre for Ј5.00 so I feel I'm getting the best tyres for my car for Ј65.50 per corner (ordered 4), which is what many seem to pay for non-descript 'budget' tyres!
I'll let you know how they feel on the car!
    Max
  • Has anyone come across a tyre called National thats nothing to do with National Tyres, and what experience have you had with it?
